Over heating - Cleo_0 - 10-14-2017
Hello. My mini is over heating. Mostly between robots. On the highway it cools down. Now the fan is blowing air out. We flipped the fan and its still blowing air. Normally its supposed to suck air in isnt it? Im wondering if i should just add an electric fan. Ive checked the gasket the thermo and the radiator so far. Just wanted to clarify on the fan before moving on.

What is the spec of your Mini? A standard Mini motor should not overheat with the correct thermostat and working radiator. If the motor has be modified, you might need to invest in a better radiator from MiniSpares.

The smooth side of the fan faces the engine i.e. this side :

Check your thermostat, waterpump, timing, radiator and fueling. If your timing is out, it can cause the engine to overheat, as can the fuel mixture. If these are right, then consider changing your water pump to a MiniSpares Evo waterpump and fitting a new thermostat. Also consider flushing out the coolant system and having the radiator checked over by Silverton or the likes.

i have a 1275 GTS the radiator is from silverton motors i have emailed them with the code on it so the can tell me what type of radiator it is. It isnt a twin carb. the choke has been disconnected aswell.

We checked the thermostat. I was wondering about the fuel because i filled the tank till the pump itself clicks to say its full and there is a VERY STRONG petrol smell in the car. I dont want to take the car to a random mechanic that will just mess up things even more.

Remove a spark plug and see what colour the spark plug is burning. The colour of the plug can generally give you a rough indication of if the mixture is too lean or too rich.
