New Classic mini owner - neillane - 02-06-2018 Good Morning I am new to the Classic Mini's and would like to find out more about the car I have bought to restore. The window wiper motor has 1975 as the year but not sure if this is original to the car Mini "bullnose" Chassis tag : - XA2S1 - 5002243 U Build tag : - A2S7 32050 (built in Blackheath Cape Town) Would also like to know if the Engine is original to the car too Engine number : - 10H743J-H5213 I have been able to determine that this is an 1100cc "big bore" motor that was only available in SA. There is also another number riveted to the front : 1055849, but I have no idea what this number is for. I have removed some of the paint to reveal the original colour. Looks like (again from the internet) that the colour would be "Smoked Grey". I am very keen to return the car to the original factory colour. If there is anyone who is able to assist me if finding out more about my car, I would appreciate it. Neil RE: New Classic mini owner - DomMINIque - 02-07-2018 Hi Neil, Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have a 1100 deluxe model in your hands. That engine is most likely the original one which came with the car. There is an 1100 thread on here in the technical section with regards to some detail around the motor. One day when I remember to upload them I'll post some photos on the forum of what an original 1100 supposedly looked like out of the factory. I have taken my engine out to fix oil leaks and get the head modified to take Unleaded fuel, so would very much like to put it back in looking the way it should. Neil RE: New Classic mini owner - Vinay-RS - 02-08-2018 Welcome, Neil. That's a stunning example! Looking at that one picture, it looks like it's really close to factory spec. RE: New Classic mini owner - DomMINIque - 02-08-2018 That's a very tidy little car!!!! And very close to what it should be in terms of exterior. RE: New Classic mini owner - jimmyjamjar - 02-08-2018 Welcome to the forum. Looks like you've got a nice example there. Seeing your reference to Leyland Blackheath reminded me of the years when for work I used to visit the factory and saw minis being built and assembled there. the engine plant particularly fascinated me seeing a raw casting progress through the plant and emerge as a running engine at the end. |
