Hi everyone, I'm Thumz, new to the forum and the mini scene.

I have a Morris Mini Mk2 (at least thats what the papers tell me), 850cc standard a-series. 

Looking forward to reading build threads and gaining some mini knowledge on here, initially got my mini as a run around for campus in 2014, however, never really got around to fixing it. Now things have changed and its in the process of getting a major make over!

The idea so far is to put in a 4AGE 16V make it pretty but functional.

Currently looking for floor panels and sport pack wheel arches if anyone has please drop me a message(based in JHB or DBN)!!!

Please post some pictures of your car.
An 850cc sounds like a mk1 to me but I know very little about the differences between the early minis.

So if your car has external door hinges, I'm appealing to you to keep it A series, but it is your car nevertheless. The 16v conversion is rather expensive and it is cheaper to build a reliable a series.

Floor panels you can get from Sports car centre they were R900 each the last time I checked with them.

Arches you can get from Sean (forum member and supreme classic parts section on the forum)

There is a detailed suppliers list on the forum though in one of the sections.

Hi Dominique, I have seen the list and have been chatting to Sean as well, its internal hinges and hockey stick grille so assumption of mk2 comes to mind i was told by Dez from Dez's minis that the mk3 (which i initially thought it was) has a boot and is more of a sedan than a hatch. i have found the floors just now from tommy, just the sport pack arches will have to wait because i found a deal on a 4age i cant refuse, also im still a full time student also working full time so project is taking its time and im happy with that. really want a fast car   and that strong toyota motor with a light mini body will be perfect!!!

any 16v or 20v build threads on here i can check out? or rather any advice as i get my build underway?? car is currently laying sad in my garage and slowly getting stripped, though it feels like the more i strip the more rust i find

Hi Thumz and welcome to the forum

If the car was built in SA, then an 850 motor would suggest an early mk1 as they had switched to 1000cc motors in the mid 60s before the mk2 was launched. The Mk2 also had external door hinges, but they had the square taillights instead of the small round taillights on the mk1s.

I agree with Dominique, if the goal is to have a nice daily runabout, then you really can't go wrong with the little 850cc motor. There is a local mini fanatic in CT who drives an 850cc mk1 everyday and he says it does the job perfectly. Also if it is a mk1 it really would be worth a lot more if kept standard.

By the sound of things, yours is a MK111, which is the series release for that particular model, while the Mk3 was an actual model name for the booted version. Also, the 848cc has more than likely been swapped in at some stage. Go for the conversion, it's your car

Ah then perhaps it has had an engine swap at some stage or is an import from somewhere like Rhodesia?

In general it is recommended that you use a photo sharing site like photobucket or flickr. You'd need ot upload the picture to the site and then share them on here with an IMG code. Hope that helps

The tags say BMC South Africa, whatever it is it's going to be a whole new mini once completed. I did at one stage want to keep it standard and original as possible but then the car scene in Jhb there's not a lot of minis and wanted it to be a standout.
