Does it make sense to use a mini as a daily driver
#11
I've used minis as daily drivers for the last six years. I don't own any other type of car, so I use a mini come rain or shine. I've used a 1275E and 1098 Deluxe for a longer commute (about 70km a day) without any problems apart from running a bit warm in crawling traffic on heat wave days. I've been using an 850 for the last 2.5 years and it's never let me down although that is for a short commute (about 20km in total). All my cars have had their factory spec engines and gearboxes. The 1098 and 1275 would cruise happily at 100-110km/h and the 850 at about 95km/h (I don't like to abuse the little old engine). I've never had problems with brakes not being adequate and they've all had bog standard drum brakes.

My mini was also my only transport for quite a few years, never let me down.

Hi all

That is good to hear. Will an electronic fan ease some problems for the car getting to hot?

It'll definitely help in slow moving traffic as well as at speeds under about 80km/h there after the electric fan becomes null and void as the force of the air entering the engine bay through the grille is greater than that of the electric fan at higher engine speeds, one thing to be certain of though is that you have a thermostat fitted within the thermostat housing otherwise the water flows far too freely and isn't allowed enough time within the radiator to actually cool as it should.

Might be better to box the radiator on the body side, before getting a electric fan.
