So not quite the weekend yet, but these are the plans at least:

HS4 rebuild/slight repair (probably more like an inspection of what is actually f*cked)
Subframe to go into the blue mini

Let's hope it's not too cold up in jhb to work outside...

Right, so Leone will get picked up tomorrow morning from her room. Her new Booster is waiting, once installed, the brakes will be bled. Will even reconnect the rear brakes for the upcoming COR.
Then a good wash.

My V8 got a wash yesterday morning and a nice run out to Killarney race track to go watch one of his cousins out on the track.

Running nicely and pulling like a train. Very happy!

This morning I pulled the speedometer out to clean its guts to see if it will make a difference in its working. For some reason the needle stays on zero until you're doing about 30 and then it suddenly remembers it's supposed to show you fast the car is going. Haven't taken it for a test drive yet.

We had really shitty weather up in JHB pretty much poured with rain the whole weekend so got nothing done on the car.

But I did buy some more mini spares. Nothing like some retail therapy

Liam and i were supposed to take the Mini out for a run down to see Dez on Saturday, but it was cold and wet, not great for a Mini with no heater and semi click tyres.

so we took the Fiesta

So miniMini (Mini is a Bini in our house) got a oil change this weekend. I almost had a heart attack when I pulled the plug out. This is after 4000km of mostly hard running. The oil started as monograde, became High Milage at 1000km (together with the blown head gasket replacement) and is now Delo400 as per forum. There was only one metal chip in the tree which I could feel between my fingers, but there was more metal which you could see if you smeared the gunk. (Obviously else it wouldn't stick to the plug) Not nice, but what can I do? It would be interesting to know how much metal one can expect to pull out of a rebuilt engine. Any experience to share? Its actually very hard to get a phone photo of it, 'cos there's no focus reference point!
Apart from that; reset the rocker gaps (were out on 3), washed the filter, checked the dashpot, put a screw into the sill trim strip which keeps popping off, checked the head torque (one nut moved a little), checked the plugs (nice & brown), and skipped the wash as there was rugby to be watched. Total cost R477

Me again - doesn't any body else work on the weekends? 
So this weekend was spent giving attention to the MINI which finally succumbed to the dreaded power steering pump failure at 190k. A new one is about 12kR part only, so after some internet research it appeared as though there might be a chance to repair it. A totally enclosed electric motor drives the pump. It sits under the exhaust and is prone to overheating and failure in many ways, one of which is because it is enclosed all the brush debris stay inside and cause shorts and get between the 4 brushes and commutator. So I thought would give it a checkout. It's really a pain to remove like everything else, and if you thought working on a Mini was space challenged the MINI is 10 times worse! Anyway removed about 3 tablespoons of dust from the motor, excluding the lot that got blown away with compressed air (not an exaggeration!) The pump section was fine and at least it working again........ for now
