Hi Guys, thanks for starting this thread, ive always been so fascinated with GTS, and last year i managed to find one that i unfortunately sold, il post some pics of the few i found over the last few years

a mate of mines GTS in PMB, unfortunately not restored to fully original but a very good example and minor mods will get it 100% perfect

some pics ed sent to me of a GTS that used to be in KZN, no idea on its current location

more to follow soon, seems like ive reached my limit

This one turned up for sale in Canberra, ACT (Australian Capital Territory) which is west from Sydney Australia.

1978 GTS - $ 17,500 AUD which is about 198,200 ZAR.

From the listing description:

The GTS was a model unique to South Africa, and at the time, the only 1275cc model available in South Africa, replacing the GT.  The GTS block was cast in South Africa and based on the original Cooper S block.  It featured high compression pistons, bigger valves and double valve springs.  They were also fitted with twin 1.25" SU Carburettors and a branch extractor manifold.  
This particular car is very clean and original.  The GTS rims (same as GT) have been changed to genuine 12" Minilites, and the carb has been changed to a single downdraft unit.  We have sourced a full set of SU's which will be refitted to the car prior to sale.  The radiator has also been exchanged for a larger front mounted unit with electric fan,  which will also be put back to std prior to sale.
This car has also been fitted with a height adjustable front and rear suspension.
The interior is original and in very good condition.
The car has had a few touch ups over the years, but remains largely original.
She will be supplied with a full ACT Rego.

From the vendor:

I don’t know too much about the history of the car unfortunately.  I bought it from a Dealer back in South Africa.  It is pretty original and neat and worth a viewing.  The previous owner did some modifications to the car, some of which I am looking to reverse.  They are not major, and some of them are nice to keep.  Here is a summary of what I found:
  • Fully adjustable suspension setup - keeping as is;
  • 12” Superlite wheels - will remain with the car.  Original wheels not available, but same as local GT, so easy to source;
  • Uprated camshaft - not sure of the spec - will keep as is;
  • Single downdraft weber fitted - maybe to suit the camshaft?  I have the original  SU’s, manifold and airbox to go with the car.  can retrofit or leave as is;
  • Larger aluminium radiator fitted across he front of the car.  Original radiator, brackets and hoses come with the car - can fit or supply as spare with the car.

Question for the GTS masters;

I'm busy with a very early GTS '73 that we bought from Scott Chapman here in Cape Town. I've been struggling to find out where everything should go in the engine bay; especially the window washer bottle.

Then I came across this image on this thread;

Our GTS has two holes on the brace behind the brake booster - did they really place the windscreen water bottle in this position ex-factory? I know there is virtually no other space but this seems really odd?

All opinions greatly appreciated.

Probably won't help much, but our 1100 Clubby has the windscreen washer bottle mounted in the same position on that support piece.

Hi Francois

Yes it does fit there, as I have a one owner 74 GTS that I did some work on and according to the pictures that I took, that is the correct place.
Own some minis, break them, fix them, improve them, test them to the limit....

Much appreciated.

I managed to get the correct bracket today and so waar the holes line up with the holes in the support.

Next question; there is a wide and a narrow bottle - which one is correct for an early GTS?

Last question; judging by the bottle options it also did not make use of an electric pump but a push button - am I right?

Eish looking at those pics of the yellow gts is really making me wanna curse those ---- that stole mine.
Mine was as original as they came. Not a speck of rust and the only thing that was changed was the it had a weber sidedraft fitted to it.

I was a little surprised myself to see the ad. And similar thought to GTS Phil, why do some cars leave the country, as mine did (now here in Oz not there in SA). A little more info from the seller, info above has been updated and more pics will be added later. Has a downdraft Weber carb and front radiator. Interior very original.

Will try to let people know where it goes.
