GTS variations
#41
that GTS was for sale in SA, yes it looks good but theres quite a bit thats not original, he sent me som epics, he refused to negotiate, think he wanted R95000. its also been repsrayed if i remember correctlly, if a car is painted and hasnt had nut and bolt restoration it loses its value in my eyes.

The following photos were lifted from a Facebook post of a late GTS for sale.

When looking over the photos, the stripe stood out. Was this a variation with the late cars, or perhaps an aftermarket stripe?
Later boot badge, nice set of 12" Momo mags as well.

I still don't think it's a reshell T. Though there is quite a bit wrong in terms of the details of the car, i.e. stripes, interior (definitely reupholstered) and carb.

The same could be said about my GTS but I know the history of my car really well, my extended lip for the arches were removed to allow the fitment of the Mini Special arches as the originals broke while being removed for the bodywork and we all know how hard it is to find decent replacement GTS archesin SA and the ones that we brought in from Oz were not of a good quality to use either without some major rejigging, my seats and door cards have also been reupholstered and my motor has had its twin SUs removed in favour of a easier to set and maintain single HS4 (soon to be fitted with twin FZD Dellorto side draught carbs), essentially we can't say whether a car is what it is or not until we have personally seen it and had a look at the factory provided evidence of what the shell really is in terms of body plates on the passenger side rear parcel shelf, passenger side seat cross member and the bonnet slam panel.

The cluster, steering wheel, grille and boot badge are all correct for a 79 model GTS however the stripe is most definitely not a GTS item, the suggested or mentioned engine colour is also correct being a dark greyand the top tinted windshield and lack of internal sun visors also suggests that those items are correct as well as the heated rear windshield which was added to the later models and the black rather than stainless door mirrors, there's a lot of detail pointing it towards being a GTS but as I stated earlier, we really would need to see the body plates to be 100% sure of it all.
