New Mini owner
#1
Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a 1978 Mini Clubman. I didn't need another vehicle (having 3 garages of bikes and cars already) but a friend offered me it at a ridiculous price and the opportunity was too good to be missed on.

Look forward to meeting other Mini owners based in Johannesburg in the future.

Thanks. I'll definitely post more pics soon.

However, a question if I may, does anyone have any details of insurance companies that would insure this car? I've tried three insurance companies today and all of them won't insure the car because it's older than 30 years.

Classic car insurance companies exist. Check with SAVVA. They get their insurance from one source. They have some strict requirements regarding usage and storage. I've been looking to get insurance for my Mini too. The biggest hurdle I'm facing is getting a valuation for the car. This has to be done by a reputable company that the insurance company recognises, and I'm struggling to find one.

Thanks Vinay_RS. I'm up in Jhb and do have someone who will give me a valuation. It's the company to insure the car I'm battling with.

Cool. Then I would contact one of the representatives at SAVVA, give them a call as they might miss your email. They will give you all the information you will need to set you on the right track.

For insurance you could try Hollard, providing you don't do more than 10,000 km per year and the car is older than 20 years and you get a value certification from a dealership they will insure and have some cool features like covering parts that have been removed for refurbishment and option to buy scrap if your vehicle  is in an accident (shudder!! )

Hi there. We make use of Bryte (011 370 9111). We have a 1971 Ford Ranchero insured with them and we will be making use of them for my 1982 Mini which we have just finished.
Mini: no explanation necessary - it speaks for itself.
